It is a field of dentistry that aims to treat all inflammatory diseases that affect the gums and surrounding tissues and even the jawbone. Symptoms of periodontal diseases are:

  • Bleeding gums when brushing teeth

  • Red, swollen and tender gums

  • Gums that can be easily separated from the teeth.

  • Inflammatory discharge between teeth and gums

  • Swaying or increasingly diverging teeth (gaps between teeth or increase in existing spaces

  • Constant bad breath

The most important cause of gum disease is the sticky and colorless film layer called “bacterial dental plaque” that accumulates on the teeth. If this plaque is not removed from the teeth effectively, it turns into a structure known as tartar or tartar. The harmful products released by the bacteria in the tartar cause inflammation in the gums. The treatment is to remove the plaque or tartar on the teeth and to obtain a smooth root surface. Surgical treatment may be required in advanced cases.
